Each fall, Lally admits 3–4 students into the Ph.D. Program in Management. Admission decisions are based on:
- GPA (3.3 or higher)
- Resume
- Recommendation letters
- Personal statement
- GMAT or GRE score
- TOEFL score (if applicable)

Application Requirements – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Applicants must submit an online application, a personal statement, resume or CV, two or Three letters of recommendation, and transcripts. GMAT or GRE scores are optional for most programs. GMATs are required for the Ph.D. program. Please check the requirements for each program carefully before submitting your application
Yes, the application fee is $75. However, this fee is waived for RPI alumni, current students, employees, and their spouses.
No, GMAT or GRE scores are optional for most programs at the Lally School. Submitting scores may strengthen your application, but they are not required. GMATs are required for the Ph.D. program. We do not require the GRE for the M.S. in Information Technology and those scores will not be considered in application decisions for that program.
Your personal statement should outline your academic and professional goals, relevant experience, and why the program is a good fit for you.
Generally, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to apply. For competitive consideration, a GPA of 3.3 or higher is preferred.
You must submit two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references who can speak to your qualifications and potential. Three letters are recommended for the M.S. in Information Technology.
Your resume or CV should highlight your academic background, work experience, research, and relevant achievements aligned with the program you're applying to.
International applicants must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to demonstrate English proficiency and provide financial documentation early to ensure timely I-20 processing. Please check Graduate Admissions for more information on international admission.
