Kyle Brody started his career as a business management student within the Lally School of Management at RPI. After graduating he worked at Deloitte Consulting for over five years and then went on to join Morgan Stanley as a Product Manager.
During his time at Morgan Stanley he launched Iliad Capital, a real estate investment firm specializing in student rental properties. Kyle wanted to ensure his firm met the needs of students, so he built it based on his own experience with off-campus rentals and interviews with over 50 students. Iliad now has a portfolio of over 160 bedrooms, making it the second largest provider of off-campus housing for RPI, and the entire company is shaped by student feedback.
“We don’t make assumptions about what students want,” he says. “Instead, we go straight to the source, asking them directly and using their feedback to guide every decision we make. Their input helps us ensure we create meaningful and effective solutions.”
The company also invests in the community by sponsoring RPI Family Weekend and supporting the campus food pantry. Additionally, they’re currently working on ways to work with local businesses to offer students discounts.
His interactions with students, through Iliad Capital, made him recognize a significant pain point in the industry: student housing insecurity. Kyle realized that housing was a huge financial burden for students, with it being the highest expense they had to pay outside of tuition. This led him to build Off Campus Technologies, a platform that streamlines the entire housing search process by simplifying listings and facilitating easy roommate matching and landlord communication.
Off Campus Technologies is entirely free for students and schools to use, and the platform includes housing options across various price points, including lower-priced units with utilities included. The platform’s first partner school was RPI and the student focused platform proved successful within the community with a 100% increase in student engagement and a 210% increase in local landlord adoption.
“The platform provides access to properties across a range of budgets, so students can choose what works best for them,” Kyle explains. “We want to empower students to find housing that fits their needs, helping ensure they have a safe place to live.”
Outside of his work at Iliad Capital and Off Campus Technologies Kyle mentors current students within the Lally Business school. In addition, he is a board member for the Lally School Industry Advisory Council, bringing a young, entrepreneurial perspective to student support and program development.
“Put yourself out there,” Kyle advises current students. “The worst that can happen is someone says no, but even that’s a lesson. It can help you open a door you didn’t even know existed, discovering opportunities and connections that can significantly impact your career.”
Kyle Brody’s career journey is a testament to how a commitment to solving real-world problems can drive meaningful innovation. He’s shown that listening to the people you aim to serve is just as important as having a bold vision. Through Iliad and Off Campus Technologies and his continued involvement with the RPI community, Kyle demonstrates that entrepreneurship can create positive change for both students and the broader campus ecosystem. His journey serves as an inspiring reminder that some of the most impactful ideas often begin during your years in college.
